Language of the Heart - The Tour 2018
The Santiago Quartet and bandoneonist Julian Rowlands will be touring a programme of works by Astor piazzolla and Will Todd featured on their album 'Language of the heart'
In Language of the Heart, two musical worlds collide: The virtuosic extraversion of Astor Piazzolla's Nuevo Tango - raw, uninhibited, emotional - and the quiet introversion of Will Todd's Birthday Quartet - lyrical but unsettling, its rich choral voicing and relentless jazz rhythms.
Santiago Quartet and Julian Rowlands have received over 130,000 views of Classic FM's social media videos featuring this repertoire.
Piazzolla's Four Season's of Buenos Aires, reimagined for String Quartet and bandoneon, is an extraordinary emotional response to the changing weather; the closeness, excitement, freedom, and finally, peace.
Best-selling Classic FM Hall-of-Fame composer Will Todd needs no introduction to concert audiences in the UK. His Birthday Quartet, a commission for Santiago Quartet, is a work of intimate beauty.
Pressed and distributed by Kartel Records, and produced by Mercury nominated Gerry Diver and Will Todd, Language of the Heart has received support from Classic FM, with the musicians invited into the studio and to perform at Global's Make Some Noise Day, 2017.
Julian Rowlands (bandoneon)
Julian ("Tango Nirvana" - The Guardian) regularly appears on national TV and radio and at major concert venues throughout the UK and Europe. His work with Tango Siempre in the Olivier-nominated Midnight Tango was described by the Financial Times as "The Tango, raw, intoxicating, speaking with its true voice."
The only classical string quartet in the UK collaborating with bandoneon and specialising in Latin American music. Formed during time spent living and working in Mexico, the Quartet's repertoire combines contemporary works by Latin American composers and authentic arrangements by Argentine bandoneon player César Olguin.
The musicians of the Language of the Heart Tour have appeared in the hit West-End shows Midnight Tango (with Strictly Stars Vincent Simone and Flavia Cacace), Kinky Boots, the Lion King, Oliver, Les Miserables, Sting Symphonicities Tour, Parkinson, Popstar to Operastar, the X Factor, BBC Strictly Come Dancing, Ball and Bow (Michael Ball and Alfie Bow, ITV), Richard Clayderman Tour, Oscar Chavez in concert at the National Auditorium, BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge, recorded for Eliza and the Bear and performed at venues including the Purcell Room, Royal Festival Hall, Royal Albert Hall, the Wigmore Hall, New York Metropolitan Opera House, Bridgewater Hall, Symphony Hall, Birmingham, Javeriana University in Colombia, and the Hollywood Bowl. The quartet has played upstairs at Ronnie Scotts, live on Radio 3 and in the studio at Classic FM.

Feedback from the UPCOMING Album
"I’m listening to the stunning chromatic clarity of your Piazzola, I’ve always loved this music, both cerebral and sensual in equal measure, but this is truly special." - Sting
Will Todd and Nick Ingman on Working with the SANTIAGO Quartet
“I have loved working with the Santiago Quartet in the past 2 years... Their musicality shines through their playing, and their attention to detail is wonderful. From a composer's perspective, their enthusiasm for performance and appetite for expression is a real winner.” — Will Todd
"Mutual understanding and mutual respect are the qualities that make for the perfect musical entity that is the string quartet. It is an abundance of the these qualities that make the Santiago Quartet the wonderful conglomerate of talent that it is. The four talented players, sometimes augmented by the South American bandoneon, make a rich and varied sound that is a real pleasure to experience.” — Eric Clapton's go-to arranger, Nick Ingman
